  • The tale of the Crimson Butterflies

Tapp Supitayaporn ran one brothel after another for the past two hundred years, living off the innocence of youth across the entire southeast, from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, from Jakarta to Ventiane. He didn't care how children were hurt, how many lives were broken, so long as money came in his pockets. In 1737, Chani Suparat investigated the disappearance of several children from south Thailand only to discover them being exploited in one of the slums Seok managed. When she discovered the horrors those children were going through - the beatings, the repeated rapes, the stink of semen in their private rooms, catching std's - her blood boiled and she came after those responsible. She killed all but one of the people running that hell, all but one. Tapp Supitayaporn escaped her fury.
Two hundred years later in Saigon, a chance encounter allowed Chani to cross ways with westerner Frances Drummond who was travelling in the area and intended to move to Singapore. The two women introduced themselves to each other and ended in bed together. Instant chemistry.
Chani told Frances a bit about herself and what she was doing in China : headhunting. When she told her lover who she was hunting, Frances' blood boiled; a rape survivor herself, she could never stand rape and especially when it came to children being sexually assaulted. And rape was starting to be institutionalized because of that bastard Gi-Su.
And this is how the Crimson Butterfly, also known as Firehair, and Chani embarked on a hunting trip through Saigon in search of Geok Gi-Su, eventually finding him under the identity of a respectable tea exportator, surrounding himself with young, very young employees, showing the facade of a kind businessman giving jobs to the imperished youth of Saigon. Undercover, this was a grooming operation for Immortal pedophiles, the Immortal children and adolescents being sold for sex to asian and European men from the region, all pedophiles looking for children who can never age and mature into adulthood. Chani took Geok-Su's head after a brief fight. The Korean never was much of a fighter.
Chani and Frances stayed two more years together before Frances left for Singapore. Chani chose to stay behind : the child-sex market was rising, she had to make sure children were being protected and she had the entire Asian southeast to keep her eyes on. Nowadays, the sex tourism in Thailand, Philippinos, and Southern Asia is in full bloom but there are associations for the protection of innocence in Thailand and Interpol keeps arresting the westerners who enter Thailand seeking favors from the innocents. And Chani keeps watch, trying to close one bordello after the other, saving as many lives as she can and killing any pedophile immortal she crosses path with.

From the Chronicle of Chani Suparat

After having rescued the children from sexual slavery, Frances Drummond and Chani Suparat wondered what do do with the frighened, traumatized and half-crazed children who had spent decades of immortality being sexually assaulted by men from the four corners of the world. The Butterfly and Chani were herself former victims of sexual violence and knew that to survive they had needed benevolent teachers to shape them in the warlike women thy had become.
Before child psychology even existed, the two women taught to eight children from diverse cultural backgrounds to stand united on the Immortal scene, they taught them about the Game, about swords, about Immortals, those who would come after their heads and those ready to help them and more importantly to behave like a combat unit, using whatever resources to survive. To move constantly from one place to another, keeping a mobile target. To trust the few Immortals ready to accept them and help them : Sanjiv Gupta in Asia, Hsien Tsiang in China, May-Ling Shen in Mongolia, and others. They told them the stories of Nzou Kulumba and his disciples in Africa who travelled oftene and avoided picking fights, about the Cyoteros of Mexico who played the Game like a battalion and about the Von Arlons and the Uscoks in Europe who were a little family. More importantly the two women taught the boys and girls to respect each others, to respect their own bodies and that no one had the right to touch them or to hurt them.
In front of the combined children, Chani and Frances were concerned about what they were unleashing on an unsuspecting world, but they didn’t have the will or the heart to execute them and rid them from their sufferings.
In the eight years they were followed, the Crimson Butterflies (named as such by Frances Drummond) moved from one place to another, surviving on the streets of whichever city they choose until we lost their trace in 1945 durign the Battle of Manila. Given the teachers they had and their behavior as a wolf pack we strongly believe they outlived the WWII events are are still living out there, somewhere.

For seventy years, Lee Jun Li survived ibn the mortal world and on the immortal scene, trusting no one, drove wild by the teachings of Srijumpa and Frances Drummond after having lived the first four decades of her immortality as a sex slave, her will to live destroyed by the manipulations of Seok Gi-Su and the daily rapes from Seok’s customers. When finally Drummond and Srijumpa killed Seok, they freed Lee Jun Li with her friends and tried to teacher her the rules of immortality and to become a skilled fighter. And indeed, Lee became a skilled fighter, a proficient one challenging any immortal crossing her path, trusting no one, turning herself into a vigilante, taking on the rapists and child molesters of the world, choosing to follow her own path instead of the Manila Azngels group who chose seclusion on holy grounds.
An endless task which brougth her to the streets of Macau, Nanking (surviving the massacre of 1937), Phnom Penh, and later one of St. Petersburg, Moscow in the 1950’s, then Eastenr Europe and the Balkans in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s she was stalking the molsters of New-York, Chicago, Miami and finally she landed in Amsterdam during the 2000’s where she challenged Maya Sokhit to a fight. Maya was an acomplished fighter who took the Game seriously and was left with no other choice than taking the head of Lee, discovering maybe a soul sister within her opponent’s Quickening, because she spent the following night in prayers in a Buddhist shrine of Amsterdam.
