Highlander - A fan edit in the works.

Hi everyone, I've been on the form for awhile now and thought about sharing something that I'm currently working on.

I call it: Highlander - The Complete Cut

It is a fan edit of the film the runs 4 minutes longer than the Internatioal / Director’s Cut.

At 1:59:58!

I will send a list of what has been added to it and what work it needs to be done on it.

The other scenes without sound have Music over them from the film except for one scene.


-Scenes Added-


-Extended Wrestling Match Footage (Music Princess Of The Universe: an Early Master Version was added to it)


-The Scene where the Cop Bedsoe, Spills Coffee on himself from The US Theatrical Cut was added back in (vhs Source, hope to get a better quality version of that shot for the final edit)


-A Shot from the Original 35mm Teaser trailer of Kurgan saying “It was destined that the board would be cleared for the real players.” During the scene where Connor and the Kurgan are in the church was added in (audio and quality is slightly rough, but can be suitable since it's the only one I found)


-Connor and Rachel's Extended Talk was added in (no music or sound) needs voice actors for Connor and Rachel


-Extended Factory Roof Fight scene Added (with the Factory Roof Fight Music in its complete form added over) needs Film sfx added into the shots


-Alternate sfx shot of The Kurgan's headless body was added in


-The Line “I want to go Home.” After Connor receives the prize from the US Theatrical Cut was added back in


-The Extended Ending was added back in (with the Prize Music track playing over it) needs voice actors for Connor and Brenda


-also needs some color correction, but I'm not very skilled at that so someone may have to take over that.

This project sounds utterly awesome!

I've seen most of the extended footage as its on numerous Blu-Ray and UHD releases of Highlander. It was only recently I found out about the 'Bedsoe spilling coffee on himself' and the Kurgan/Church dialogue 'it was destined that the board would be cleared for the real players' so having those scenes reintroduced into the film would be an absolute dream.

From what I remember, there was a full unabridged version of Highlander (with all of the scenes mentioned + audio) that was shown only once in Egypt of all places back in 2011? Some sort of 70mm cut. I think this is it: https://www.in70mm.com/presents/1963...nder/index.htm

You are correct. It was at the Egyptian Theatre in 2011, and it vanshised. I recently got the best quality version of the Bedsoe scene and added it to my new cut. Just need now sound effects and voice over for those scenes.

Update:


I got better resolution footage of the Dialogue church scene from the rare trailer. And noticed a few seconds of footage I've not seen I'm my edit. It is during the Factory fight scene with Kurgan and Connor.


And now the cut length is


2:00:03!


And I added voice audio of an AI tts Christopher Lambert voice for his lines. Some are spot on, but some don't sound quite right sadly.


So now I need someone to voice Rachel & Brenda. And sfx for the scenes.

I'm interested to know about the factory fight footage. Do you mean the fight involving Connor and Kurgan just before the police helicopter intervenes?

I sat down and watched the edit last week.

Firstly, great work! I was really impressed with how a lot of the deleted scenes were factored into the film. I've seen the vast majority of deleted scenes from various Blu-Ray/4K versions of Highlander but it was great to see them factored into the feature film

Some observations

1. Extended wrestling fight scenes with 'Princes of the Universe' playing - that worked really well.
2. Small extended snippets of the 1536 battle between the MacLeods vs The Frasers - we briefly see Connor running up a hill looking all confused because no one will fight him. I think its from the 35mm trailer?
3. Bedsoe spilling coffee on himself when he's sat outside of Brenda's apartment - I believe this was in the US Directors Cut but being from England, I've never seen this scene in the film.
4. Extra footage of the Kurgan talking in the church - 'It was destined that the board was cleared for the real players' - 35mm trailer I believe? What an awesome bit of dialogue. They should've left that bit in the feature film!
5. Additional fight scenes between Connor and Kurgan on top of Silvercup. Now this really stood out for me. I think it made that fight even better. It felt like Connor and Kurgan were slugging it out more. It felt more intense.
6. Additional scenes between Connor and Rachel during the 'Russell Nash dies tonight' scene. It's a real pity that the audio dialogue isn't available for this scene as it would really add to the poignancy of it.
7. 'I want to go home' - the audio overlay at the end just after the final Quickening. I knew that line was added to various versions of Highlander but I've never heard it with my own two ears until now. A great addition to that scene.
8. Connor and Brenda picnic scene - extended footage at the end of the film. I'd be interested to know what Connor and Brenda are saying in this scene.


I've probably missed more but overall I was very impressed. One thing I would suggest is adding the still photos from the Kurgan vs Yung Dol Kim scene. I know its only still photos but it would be great to get a sense of what this scene would be like if it had survived and made it into the feature film. Maybe add an audio track over it from the Ramirez/Kurgan and Kastigar/Kurgan fight?

Overall, well done. A project to be proud of.
