Accompanied Hubby to Ford vs Ferrari a couple of weeks ago. I figured anything with Matt Damon was worth sitting through. Other than far too many shots of a guy shifting gears in a race car, it didn't disappoint.

I saw " Ad Astra". Seeing a preview several times made me think the movie might be very interesting, but my experience with the movie was quite different. The special effects were very good, however, the writing left a lot to be desired. The story set up expectations that were just not fulfilled. By the end of the movie, I was left wondering what the movie was all about. If I had paid to see it in a theater, I would have felt ripped off.

One of the premium channels was showing Highlander: The Final Dimension. Whoo hoo!, so I grabbed some popcorn and settled in for some nostalgia, but sadly, it seemed a little dumb after all this time. Can't believe I'm saying that.

I watched the 2002 movie Ghost Ship. It wasn't too bad!

French Kiss with Kevin Kline playing a Frenchman and Meg Ryan at the peak of her rom-com perk. What we call an idiot plot, if the protagonist wasn't an idiot, there would be no plot. It was by turns amusing and trite.

I saw "Rebel Without a Cause" for the first time. I actually found it somewhat boring and a bit ridiculous. I have heard about it for years and thought it would be a great movie, but it just didn't live up to expectations. The story was about young people doing really stupid things for no particular reason. Now granted, when I was young I did some really stupid things for no particular reason, but neither I nor anyone I knew in High School did anything anywhere near as stupid as I saw in this movie. Maybe its just the times I grew up in (decades later than the movie). I suppose that in the 50's, when this movie came out, it was probably very provocative and made a lot of people think hard about their own lives and times.

I saw "Then Came You". It is a very touching story about a young woman with cancer and a shy young man who she befriends. Maisie Williams and Asa Butterfield both give excellent performances. Nina Dobrev is also quite good in a supporting role.

I'm watching Dark Phoenix. More than halfway through. The indignant "Why?" keeps sputtering out of me. Geesh. Geesh. This movie is scuzzy in many ways.

I watched the movie "Welcome to Marwen". It is a fictionalized account based on the life of artist Mark Hogencamp. The movie starred Steve Carell, playing the role of Mark. The real life artist tells stories by photographing dolls set in a fictional town in Belgium during WWII. In the movie, the dolls come to life and appear as animated dolls. Actors playing the dolls were filmed using motion capture techniques. It was very well done and the story is quite compelling.

After seeing the movie, I watched a very interesting documentary named "Marwencol", made some years earlier, that followed Mark around for a time and explored his life and his imaginary world. The success of the documentary led to the making of the movie.
