  • Thanksgiving dinner will consist of Golden Corral turkey gravy and dressing with potatoes and veggies cooked at home. Good compromise I think when ther is only the two of us...

    • Relaxing at work and waiting for lunch. Had a stressful Thanksgiving but still recognized how much I have to be thankful for. No heat for two days and power is only working on one side of the house. We're renting so neither will cost us money but it's still aggravating. Had meatloaf and homemade mashed potato and gravy on Thanksgiving as it was just immediate family. Will be going to the in-laws tomorrow as we do every year and will get to spend time with the grandkids (hopefully all 4 but at least 2).

For whoever asked about my daughter's knee, it's healing well and she's able to put more weight on it. She went back to the doctor this week and they took the immobilizer off and put someone on that limits movement to certain degrees to keep her from hurting herself. It's much lighter and she can finally fully bathe as long as she keeps her leg out of the water. Still hoping the pins can come out but if not, I told her she'll be part cyborg like me which isn't so bad.

        • How do you wish someone who just tried to commit suicide a Happy Birthday? She's still in the hospital (been there for almost 4 weeks--overdose). "Hope you have a happy day" just doesn't seem like the thing to say. Or, "I'm sure this isn't how you expected to spend your 60th birthday" doesn't sound quite right either.

Other than that, we had a great Thanksgiving and the Christmas tree and decorations are already up. First time ever for me and Hubby to have that done this early. It's not even December for crissakes, but Spare Heir Two was home for T-Day and won't get home again until just before Christmas, so D-I-L wanted him to be able to help the kids trim the tree and be there for that special fun.

~mj~, hope you and G are feeling better. Hap, glad your daughter's knee is healing.

Edited to add: Got a phone call this afternoon that there is no evidence of cancer on the CT scan. So what I'm bugging the internal specialist about is scar tissue complications.
Good news on the CT scan.

          • I am up...have no idea why. I think it`s one of those existential mornings...who am I? Why am I here?...

          • Just got done talking with a customer who had 2112 as part of their email address. I had to ask to be sure and they were indeed a fellow Rush fan. So now I'm going through the album in my mind until I can listen to it at lunch.

            • On a less happy note, I also found out my step-daughter's pap smear results this morning. The doctor's say it's concerning, but not alarming, at this point. They will have to do a biopsy on the cancerous cells to get a better picture. Cancer runs strong in Dreigha's family. There's other shit going on her life that makes this really lousy timing but I'm not allowed to go into that.

*Just a note..all 4 of her kids (3 girls and a boy) are technically step-kids since none share my blood but I raised the youngest two since they were 5 and 7 so consider them 100% mine.

Excellent to be a grandparent, blood or not.

            • Cancer always sucks, no kidding.

On that note, my respirologist is also happy with my CT scan and wants to try various medications. First one is a prescription nose spray? For coughing up golf balls of phlegm in the morning? Whatever.

What I'm doing right now- The breadmaker is running and a pork roast is in the oven. I dumped the last bottle of mead on it- the batch that I put too much mulling spice in. The clove is really noticeable. Clove goes fine with fresh pork, right?

OOOOH YES!! Cloves go wonderful with pork...i`m commin` for dinner...

            • Thanks for the responses. On the birthday card I went with the bland and cliched "Thinking of you and wishing you well". The thinking of her is true enough, but THOSE thoughts won't be conveyed to her. Not to mention the cost of four weeks of hospitalization, so far, including a week in the ICU on life support and several rounds of dialysis, must be staggering. Gah. Don't mean to sound so cold, but this is her second attempt in about 4 years. She won't accept the fact that she needs help. *rant, rant*

Indeed it was good- should have thought of it when I was first disappointed with the batch. Now I'm wondering what sort of gravy the liquid off it would make. A four pound roast braised in a pint of it for a bit over three hours, so is it closer to drippings or closer to still being a spiced honey mixture?

            • Whichever it is, it sounds delicious...I LOVE cloves...in tea, pies, gingerbread, spice cake...yum...

                                  • I did my christmas shopping online last week, now I'm shopping for myself. Bailed on about 3 different sites where the shipping cost was the same as the product. Product 5 bucks more, saner shipping? I'm not so cranky about that.

I'm feeling kinda old. I'm turning 49 on Thursday, but that's not it. I had a devil of a time (even grumbling under my breath) getting out of the back seat of dad's car. (He & his wife took me for an early birthday supper.)

Are the boxes of mandarin oranges later than usual and a meh price elsewhere on the planet, or is it just western Canada?
