Duncan's Season 2-3 Katana: A study in pictures
In Season 2-3 the Highlander Series transitioned the Duncan Katana design to the famous Marto Sword of the Dragon.
Accepted wisdom holds that in the second and third seasons, this early SOTD has no fuchi or collar. However from these production still photos it is possible to see detail that was previously obscured. What we can see is that both collarless and collared swords were used simultaneously.
It was likely a continuity requirement to remove the collar from the SOTD in order to make it as close to the Geaghan design as possible.

In these screenshots from the episode we can apparently only see a stunt sword which i surmise is cast resin and an aluminum blade with no habaki. It has a round and unidentified tsuba which does not seem to match the rooster design. However the discussion of typing and construction methods of of stunt swords is outside of the scope of this post. The SOTD has no fuchi or collar.
Pictures 3-4 .... S2E19 "Legacy"
In this first production still where Duncan confronts Luther, with Amanda's crystal, he's holding a beauty sword. You can see the signature Marto Rooster Tsuba on the katana as well as a collar painted white. During the hay bale fight, the sword switches to a stunt version of Duncan's sword which is visible in a few shots which show a cross pin through the center of the handle.
