The Hellfire Club, an organisation of rich Immortals who have been a thorn in the SIS'side since the 17th century and are like a wet bar of soap : impossible to hold for long. Richeard and his group could never catch them in time and put a permanent end to their activites. Not exactly major villains, but still severe nuisances. Irritatign and frustrating, hedonistic, scheming, anti-patriotic, everything the SIS isn't! They even made friends with the SIS ennemies such as the Spanish Cabal, the Knights of Charlemagne and the Court of Beauties.
They dress up in Victorian-era clothing, are involved in racketeering, counter-inelligence, wanton acts of terrorism and also extortion. They don't mind murder too. They tend to target and kill, ridicule, harass important figures of the Londonian society. Everything that can annoy, piss off or endanger the SIS they do it! Their credo is: do what you want unto others, but don't get caught.. and don't lose your head!
Watcher Bureau, London England
TIMELINE
1659 : The Black Friars Club comes under the surveillance of the SIS as slave traders, also creatign a chain of monasteries and holy grounds in Great Britain housing all the Immortal criminals and madmen
1665 Black Plague in England brought by merchant ships captained by the Black Friars
1668: Bawdy House Riots took place following repression of a series of attacks against brothels; the Club had interests in most of those brothels and are behind those riots.
1689 : Black Friars Club is dissolved by the SIS as is their monasteries network; only one stands, to be purchased by Sena Burns for his Blck Friars Asylum project.
1690's : Help trigger several coups and rebellions agaisnt British Crown in Scotland and Ireland
1719: Spitalfields weavers rioted, attacking women wearing Indian clothing and then attempting to rescue their arrested comrades; the Black Friars are strongly suspected by the SIS who cannot prove anything (well...)
1735 : The Black Friars Club Immortals come back as the Hellfire Club with chess pieces monickers
1743 : The Club trigger the London Riots against Gin Taxes and other legislation to control the Gin Craze, principally the Gin Act 1736; rioting was fuelled by consumption of the drink itself in clandestine pubs held by the Club.
The Club's Black Bishop comes after one of the SIS, tries to kill him and loses his head.
1744-64: Durign those years when the SIS is buy elsewhere, the Hellfire Club grows i ninfluence over London, actively participating in the slave trade and financing the Carmatic War. They start creatign alliances within the House of Wigs and the Chambers of Lords, creating havoc and involving respectable dignitaries in scandals involving human sacrifices and sex with 12-years prostitutes.
1781 : The Hellfire Club manipulates members of the parliament so they increase concessions to Catholics, thus triggering more riots.
1790's Industrial Revolution; The Club opens factories where workers are worked to death in the name of profit.
1833 : SIS engineer Slavery Abbolishment Act and must fight the Hellfire Club's White Knight in a duel to the death.
1887 Bloody Sunday in Ireland, the Club triggers a riot protesting British coercion in Ireland
1888 : Kellistra orders all Londonian Immortals out of town for a decade. The SIS complies as does the Hellfire Club which relocate to America where they shape the New-York Victorian Hellfire Club for ten years.
1898 Back to London, are maintaining several brothels specializing in underage prostitution. The SIS' ladies come after the Club's black-hearted Black Rook and kill her.
1936: The Battle of Cable Street saw rioting against the Metropolitan Police as they attempted to facilitate a march by the British Union of Fascists well-supported by the Hellfire Club
1942-1945 : The Herllfire Club dispaears durign the Blitz, theri mansion/HQ bombed out. They are belived dead until 2017 when they re-appear.
Notes:
This Hellfire Club is as far removed from the previous version of he Hellfire Club as once written, remember ? A small number of manipulated Immortal children and teens instead.
This is more in tune with the Hellfire Club from A Touch of Brimstone, the Avengers' classic episode which inspired Chris Claremont and Joyn Byrne's rendition of the Club.
And it is White King, Black King, White Bishop, Black Knight and White Rook, with colors being alternated.
Where the SIS are more or less heroes, the Club is made up of "anti-villains", they did truly bad things and were involved in the slave trade before it became illegal. They backed up the Brothers of the Coast piracy brotherhood I once referred to. They are to the SIS what Doctor Doom is the to the Fantastic Four, or Magneto and his Brotherhood is to the X-Men. A perfect foil not afraid to use foreign immortals - coming from countries exploited by the British Empire - against members of the SIS. Their troubles against the Immortal Republican Army and the Khond Brothers is due to manipulations from the Club.
And here are our three other antagonists.
